Principal Investigator

Dr. Jaya Joshi

Assistant Professor, UBC Department of Wood Science

Born and raised in India, Dr. Jaya Joshi joined the University of British Columbia (UBC) as an Assistant Professor in 2023. Her research focuses on improving suboptimal enzymes through laboratory evolution for industrial applications and advancing the circular economy. Dr. Joshi leverages custom-designed enzymes in the metabolic engineering of microbes to transform biomass-derived feedstocks into fuels, valuable commodities, and pharmaceutical products, contributing to the development of sustainable chemistry. She earned her Ph.D. from Western University, working in the lab of Dr. Marsolais (2013–2017), and completed postdoctoral fellowships with Dr. Andrew Hanson at the University of Florida (2017–2020) and Dr. Vincent Martin at Concordia University (2020–2022)
